AVID students who exemplify their own Advancement Via Individual Determination will be eligible to graduate with distinction and to wear a special stole at graduation.

Candidates must provide documentation in a portfolio verifying that they meet five of the following standards. The AVID site team will make the final review and award.
- GPA of 3.0 or higher (if necessary, students can calculate a weighted GPA)
- Successful completion of three or more years of AVID (*must be achieved as 1 of the 5 standards)
- Successful completion of senior year in AVID (*must be achieved as 1 of the 5 standards)
- Participation in at least one co-curricular activity for two or more years (e.g., sports, clubs, and other approved activities)
- Completion of service learning project(s) totaling a minimum of 50 hours (includes any service within the school or the community without receiving payment). Hours must be documented with signatures.
- Completion of standardized tests: PSAT®; Pick 1: ACT® or SAT®
- Participation in at least one AVID promotional session (e.g., AVID Awareness presentations, 8th grade presentations, parent presentations, family workshop presentations, department presentations)
- Completion of one or more Advanced Placement® exams
- Completion of two or more dual enrollment or summer college courses
- Acceptance by a four-year college or university

- English - either earn a 3.0 GPA in all English classes OR pass the CAASPP OR pass an AP English exam with a 3 or higher OR score a 480 or higher on the Evidence-Based Reading and Writing section of the SAT

- Other Language - earn a 3.0 GPA in a four-year course of study in a world language at the high school or higher level OR Pass an AP World Langauge exam with a 3 or higher

Must demonstrate mastery of the curriculum in at least six subject areas, as follows:
- English language arts/literacy (ELA)—students must have earned one of any of the following: A grade of B+ or above (or numerical equivalent) each semester of a single course completed in grades nine, ten, or eleven OR An achievement level of “Standard Met” or above for the high school Smarter Balanced Summative Assessment taken in grade eleven
- Mathematics—students must have earned one of any of the following: A grade of B+ or above (or numeric equivalent) each semester of a single course completed in grades nine, ten, or eleven OR An achievement level of “Standard Met” or above for the high school Smarter Balanced Summative Assessment taken in grade eleven
- Science—students must have earned one of any of the following: A grade of B+ or above (or numeric equivalent) each semester of a single course completed in grades nine, ten, or eleven OR An achievement level of "Standard Met" or above for the high school California Science Test taken in grade ten or eleven
- U.S. history—students must have earned one of any of the following: A grade of B or above (or numerical equivalent) on completion of the required U.S. history course (each semester)
- Two additional subject areas—students may choose from any of the following: ELA, mathematics, science, or U.S. history and not already used to meet eligibility. A grade of B or above (or numerical equivalent) upon the completion of high school courses in other subjects

- Complete at least four classes in the Science pathway, with a passing grade in both semesters (including Biology and Chemistry). Other courses include: Zoology/Botany, Anatomy, GEOL 8, Forensics, Physics and Earth Science
- Obtain a minimum of 3.0 GPA in Science classes
- Obtain an overall 2.5 GPA
- Attend one science related field trip by December prior to graduation
